But her plan goes horribly wrong thanks to Coburn Wallace, the betrothal is broken, but the cost was higher than Arieen ever anticipated. Coburn is cousin and second in command to Laird Logan Rutherford and is happy with his life at Lockeleith Keep, he enjoys his freedom and has no plans to marry - but when he unintentionally ruins Arieen, he does the honorable thing and offers to marry her. She flatly refuses, he should be relieved, but instead finds himself trying to find a way to get her to change her mind. Arieen has learned some awful truths about her life and has now been cast out and ruined. She will not marry Coburn, but does accept his offer to introduce her to his cousin Logan and vouch for her. Logan offers her the position of secretary and she gratefully accepts. She travels to Lockeleith with Coburn and tries to settle into her new life. Coburn finds himself falling for Arieen and wants to marry her, but can he convince her that his offer is no longer due to guilt but from desire? This was a sweet little novella with a wonderful hero (who is not rakish at all), twists, turns, secrets, shocking revelations and finally a HEA with a very touching epilogue. Personally, I didn't really care for Arieen, she seemed determined to cut off her nose to spite her face and didn't seem to grasp the enormity of her situation. She was not an unlikable person, just someone that I didn't particularly warm up to. But overall, this was an enjoyable read and I would happily recommend it, it is the second book in the Heart of the Scot series, but it can easily be read as a stand alone. *I am voluntarily reviewing an eARC that was provided to me*

Series: Heart of a Scot #2 Publication Date: 12/12/18 Number of Pages: 176 One of my favorite things about this novella is that neither of the main characters has a title. Both are commoners and the hero isn’t rich – and the heroine doesn’t come with a huge dowry. Nineteen-year-old Arieen Gillian Kinna Fleming is determined to break her betrothal to the odious, womanizing, pompous, wiley, snake-in-the-grass Viscount Quartermain. She didn’t choose to be betrothed to him and the more she has learned Series: Heart of a Scot #2 Publication Date: 12/12/18 Number of Pages: 176 One of my favorite things about this novella is that neither of the main characters has a title. She didn’t choose to be betrothed to him and the more she has learned of him, the more she has become determined not to become his wife. She only has a week left before the wedding. The night of the masquerade ball will be her only opportunity to do anything to cause a break in the betrothal. Her plan – well – she’s going to wait until he sneaks out for an assignation and then she’ll ‘discover’ them and cry foul. Then, he’ll be forced to end the betrothal. (Yes, she is that naïve). When that plan goes horribly, horribly awry, she finds herself disowned, homeless and with no funds at all. Now, what is she going to do? Coburn Lain Calan Wallace wasn’t meant to wed. He likes his life just as it is. He is second in command to his cousin Logan who is Laird of his clan. No, he isn’t rich, nor is he likely to be and that is just fine with him. His only valuable possession is his horse – and again, that is fine with him. So, why is he finding himself so drawn toward that winsome lady pirate across the room? He’d love to have a dance, but the dragon of a woman who is her companion made it quite clear that he was not welcome to make the lovely pirate’s acquaintance. Since he’ll be returning to Lockelieth Keep tomorrow, he’ll probably never find out who she is. When Coburn tries to be gentlemanly and stop her from stumbling upon an assignation, she is furious and does all she can to escape from him. Goodness, she is a spitfire. After an unfortunate set of events occur, Coburn finds himself trying to do his best to save Arieen. I enjoyed this story, but somehow, I just didn’t feel the romance and I didn’t care overly much for Arieen. She was definitely naïve, and she just never seemed to get it. By that I mean, she never really seemed to grasp the seriousness of her situation. There was also a scenario that was brought up in the epilogue that just didn’t make sense because we are left wondering – well, what happened? Had that point been introduced earlier and then the epilogue could have further fleshed out those relationships, it would have left me with fewer questions. Anyway – I enjoyed the story and I hope you will as well. Please check out my reviews at: Blog: https://flippinpages.blog/ Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/flippinpages... To Redeem a Highland Rake: A Historical Scottish Romance is the second book in the Heart of a Scot series by Collette Cameron. As I haven't read the first book I can easily say that this book can be read as a standalone one. Arieen Flemming is being forced into a marriage with a man who she knows is a philanderer and who is only after her dowry. She endeavours to catch him in the act with one of his lady friends at a ball they have been invited to. As I haven't read the first book I can easily say that this book can be read as a standalone one. Arieen Flemming is being forced into a marriage with a man who she knows is a philanderer and who is only after her dowry. She endeavours to catch him in the act with one of his lady friends at a ball they have been invited to. The perfect opportunity arises but is foiled by a well-meaning man, one that has been fascinated by her from the minute he first set eyes on her. Coburn Wallace is that man. When he inadvertently puts a stop to her plan, she quickly decides to go for the next best option. She makes herself look dishevelled and then grabs Coburn for a kiss that leaves them both in shock and breathless. Oh yes, the plan works in as much as her betrothed wants nothing to do with her, but he wants her dowry all the same because of breach of contract. That, in turn, infuriates her father and she finds herself being thrown out of her home with her only rescue being dear Coburn who offers to marry her. From there the story continues with Arieen coming across as an immature, ungrateful woman. She got herself into the situation she is in and yet baulks at the idea of marriage to a man she thinks doesn't love her. I know she wasn't thinking when the whole incident happened at the ball, but the damage has been done and she should be thankful to Coburn. She is seriously attracted to him so it would be no hardship for her to accept his proposal without making him jump through hoops. I loved Coburn from the very start, he is the ultimate hero, I am sure he would have offered to marry Arieen even if he didn't find himself seriously attracted to her. He doesn't give up on her when many men would have. Does he make her see sense, will she realise that he doesn't only want to marry her because of them being caught kissing? You will have to read the book to find out. Although I didn't like the character of Arieen much, I did love Coburn's character. I believe the author perhaps very cleverly made Arieen the less than perfect heroine in the story so that Coburn's character could shine, and shine it did. I enjoyed their story a lot and the subplot involving Arieen's family was unexpected too. Perhaps the latter came to its conclusion a little quickly, but with the book being a short one I guess that is understandable. All in all, I did enjoy this story and am happy to recommend it.

Again, Collette Cameron’s wit shines through with Aireen Fleming determined to control who she marries and Coburn Wallace, a confirmed rake who’s determined to never marry. Throw in an unexpected twist, a knight in shining armour, a scheme gone awry and you have another favorite Collette Cameron story.

This book overlaps the previous one in the series, whilst it could easily be read on its own I did read this immediately after reading the first book. Another lovely read which I read in two sittings. The book is well written & the characters well fleshed. My heart went out to Arieen & I really, really wanted her father to suffer, maybe losing all his investments & becoming a pauper would have been fitting. Coburn & Arieen were attracted to each other from their first sighting but neither wants to marry & can’t believe the other feels the same way. Things don't go smoothly for them on the road to their HEA but it’s highly entertaining My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Can these two find lasting love from the most unexpected meeting? As I turned the last page, my heart smiled with the knowledge that there would be another story in this series to come! Well done.

This was a very entertaining read. Although Arieen has a good strength of character, she also has a caring heart. To Redeem a Highland Rake is Book two in the Heart of a Scot series by Collette Cameron. This is a wonderful story and fits like a puzzle piece with the first book in the series To Love a Highland Rogue. This is book two in the series and I loved the beginning of this story and meeting Arieen at a masquerade ball as she attempts to thwart her betrothal to a philandering Englishman. Coburn tried to save her innocent sensibilities by preventing her stumbling upon the unsuspecting couple which leads to his compromising Arieen. I love reading Collette Cameron as she uses humor and wit with strong heroines and roguish hero’s.

To Redeem a Highland Rogue by Collette Cameron is the next in her Heart of a Scot series and features Coburn Wallace, who we met briefly in the last book, the cousin of Logan Rutherford and Arieen, daughter of Robert Fleming, a wealthy merchant eager for his daughter to wed a title. She only needed to get away from her stepmother and follow Quartermain and his mistress into the garden and catch them in the act. She was so close, when Coburn stopped her, pointing out that she would be interrupting. Exactly. One thing led to another and before you knew it, she was kissing Coburn, and getting caught. She was ruined! On top of that her father chose this moment to announce that he was not really her father, that her mother had been with child when they married, and he was washing his hands of her...now....tonight. What would she do? This was a somewhat simplistic, yet charming Scottish romance. Coburn, being the honorable man he was, offered for her to save her from ruin. She refused, but did accept his assistance, having not real alternative. Arieen was a strong, courageous woman, hemmed in by societal norms and expectations. She was a hard worker, and could make her own way with little assistance. Coburn knew what it was like on the streets...he had been there and he didn't want it for Arieen. He had supposed he would never marry and here he was, offering for a stranger. The plot is basic but interesting. The ending is unexpected but satisfying. It is an enjoyable read for a cozy winter day. I recommend it for romance readers and highland lovers. I received a free ARC of To Redeem a Highland Rogue from Dragonblade. Her father had disowned her and told her to never come back because of she is ruined and he still had to pay the dolt the dowry, even though he was the one dallying with another woman. Such were the injustices of that time. What made this story stand out was the fact that Coburn wasn't wealthy. He didn't have a lot of money. He had no land or title. He's the cousin and the second-in-command of the laird of Lockelieth Keep. He's simple and he's happy. He's just not so sure that Arieen is going to want to settle down with him. Spoiled or not, she is a well-bred lady and he is a commoner. That was so refreshing and made his character so intensely lovable. Aireen was likeable, too. Despite her education and her upbringing, she was still humble. She was strong, too. Her world turned against her in an instant and she found her life turned upside down, but she put on her big girl panties and made the best of it. She wasn't counting on falling in love with Coburn Wallace. Another thing I found endearing about her was that she wore glasses and she wasn't self-conscious about it. Everything between these two characters worked. I loved them both and I loved their story. I was so enamored with it all, I had the book read in a day. This is a sweet, clean romance that is sure to warm your heart. Easy, easy five stars. *I received this book as a gift

What are you willing to do to avoid marrying a lecherous, scoundrel? Are you willing to catch him in the bushes with another woman? Are you willing to scandalize yourself? Well, Arieen Fleming is willing to do both of these to avoid her marriage to Viscount Quartermain. When Coburn Wallace prevents Arieen from catching Lord Quartermain “in the act” she believes she has only one way of preventing the marriage – make Lord Quartermain see her as scandalous and he will want to call off the wedding. Neither of these plans work out quite as she planned. That one kiss between Arieen and Coburn sets the story into motion. Coburn has never wanted to marry, but now finds himself proposing to Arieen. Arieen, an educated, gently-bred woman finds herself outcast from her family with no place to go. Arieen, with Coburn’s help, gets the position of secretary for Laird Rutherford (Coburn’s cousin). This position, while beneficial, does pose other problems further down the line. Although this story picks up toward the end of To Love a Highland Rogue, it can easily be read as a standalone. It was lovely to see Logan and Mayra again. They, along with the household help work to bring Arieen and Coburn together. Coburn is charming and witty and Arieen is humble and a beautiful person on the inside, as well as the outside. And she has wonderful friends in Berget and Emiline! I truly enjoyed this story and I look forward to others in this series. I was gifted a copy of this story and gladly offer my review.

Their story overlaps Logan’s, and he and Mayra do what they can to help Arieen (and Coburn). This is a wonderful story that starts a little tense, moves to betrayal and sadness, and becomes happy. There are surprises in the story, not particularly nice ones, but the last one in the story is awesome. To Redeem a Highland Rake is the second book in The Heart of a Scot series. I recommend the book and the series.

"To Redeem a Highland Rake" is Collette Cameron's second installment of her Heart of a Scot series. It is every bit as delightful as the first book, but can definitely be read as a stand alone novel. Cameron has delivered another magical tale of the Scottish Highlands. It's a quick read that you won't want to put down until you find out what happens! I can't wait for book three! When that plan doesn't work out as she expects she causes a public scandal involving herself and a handsome Scotsman whom she's just met. As she plans, her intended shrugs off the engagement. What she doesn't plan on is her step-mother (who is monstrously pregnant at the time of our story) going into early labor, blaming her for the potential loss of her baby and her father publicly disowning Arieen. Now homeless and destitute, Arieen must find her place in the world. Coburn Wallace has had his eye on Arieen since she first demanded he kiss her. Coburn has it in his head that he will marry the fiery lass, after all he's the reason she's in this mess.

Desperate times call for desperate measures and they might just redeem a rake. I was hooked from the moment her plan was revealed and her back up plan. That spark between them ignited from across the room and they were goners as soon as they kissed. I was completely shocked by every word that came out of her father's mouth when he saw them. When Coburn showed her where he came from and told her he couldn't let her be homeless made my heart melt. A tiny part of me wished someone would really knock her father down a few more pegs, but I loved how it all ended. Arieen will not stand by and let her father trade her like property to a man that didn't care about her at all. She is not shy at all and has no problems saying what she heard or thinks. I loved how she kept her head up after everything her father said and with the gossip going. Coburn may love women to the fullest, but he has a heart of gold and won't let her suffer. He knew he wanted her and would do anything to protect her. I loved how he was just as blunt as her and that he went to great lengths to make her happy. After meeting Coburn in the first book of the series, I was ready for him to have to eat his words of never getting married, LOL!! I loved watching these two come together and fall in love. I'm excited to see what Cameron come up with next!

Is there such a thing as love at first sight? Well, in the story of To Redeem a Highland Rake by Collette Cameron book 2 in the Heart of a Scot series I would have say yes. I have read most of Collette’s books and she has yet to disappoint. Collette Cameron always writes such heartwarming stories and this one is no exception. When you finish reading a book with a sigh and a silly grin on your face, you know it was a good story:) I must say, though, the prologue had me reaching for the tissues, I just wanted to hold Coburn, the child!! It never ceases to bother me when I read what women have had to contend with throughout history. Thank goodness there have always been some good men mixed in with the jerks, that supported women as capable human beings when the laws & odds were against them. Arieen Fleming is a likable young woman that tries to stay strong, even when her world crashes around her. Coburn Wallace steps in to help when Arieen’s plan to end her unwanted betrothal turns into an absolute disaster.
