From the South, where the cooking reflects a Malay influence, comes a tantalizing array of curries and delicious seafood dishes. The Central Plains region, with the huge vibrant city of Bangkok as its focus is the most fertile, part of the country and is rich in fresh produce. The North has a very distinctive cuisine based on glutinous rice, and the dishes that accompany it are generally milder than those of the Central and Northeastern regions In the Northeast the influence of nearby Laos is felt and dishes tend to be highly spiced. Thai-born chef and culinary expert Panurat Poladitmontri and his partner, Judy Lew, have prepared this superb collection of authentic, recipes, each of which has been individually photographed by leading food photographer John Hay and beautifully styled by Ann Creber. Internationally renowned photographers Luca Invernizzi Tettoni and John Hay present a spectacular collection of photographs to show Thailand's great scenic diversity, from the beaches and jungles of the South to the misty mountains of the North, and the varied lives of it's people. William Warren, who has spent many years in Thailand, writes with an insider's knowledge. He takes the reader on an absorbing trip around the country discussing the various influences--historical, physical, racial and cultural--that have formed the distinctive culture of the Thai people. An extensive glossary ensures that any cooks who are unfamiliar with oriental ingredients and presentation will have no difficulty in bringing this wonderful selection of Thai dishes to their tables.

I’ve enjoyed the 5-6 books I’ve read so far in the Beautiful Cookbook series. A few are exceptional. This one is very good, perhaps exceptional as well. Very well done. Does not get bogged down in the cuisine or the history but presents them both adeptly. Well thought out, beautiful pics as usual, straightforward, and accessible.

Stunning photos illustrate this book with many genuine Thai recipes. The recipes are not too elaborate and the ones I tried were delicious. A good guide to ingredients is included. Recommended for those who are nostalgic about Thailand and its food.

Every recipe from this book is excellent. After traveling in Thailand I bought this book and been using it since. I think the recipes are more traditional. Everytime I cook something from the book it takes me back to Thailand!

I don't keep many cookbooks, usually picking out the one or two recipes that I like, copying them out and putting them into my binder of favourites. Keeps the cupboard more simple but this book I kept. It is indeed beautiful with gorgeous photos of each dish plus a few photos scattered throughout the book depicting each region. Lots of interesting food facts contained. And not just one or two good recipes but a bookful of consistently good recipes. Ones that you can make authentically and totally from scratch or from pre-made bases (e.g. curry paste). Only one dish out of the entire book didn't work out for me and that might be because I substituded venison for deer and probably didn't adjust for the lean a meat. If you love good authentic Thai food then this book is for you. Use it as a functional coffe table book.

I love this cookbook. The recipes are quick to prepare, and easy to follow. I have yet to make one that wasn't absolutely delicious. The one drawback is that a significant number of recipes call for ingredients that are difficult to get. There isn't usually more than one hard-to-get ingredient in any given recipe, and I have found that that ingredient can be done without, or substituted reasonably easily most of the time while still giving wonderful results. One warning - many of the recipes are I love this cookbook. The recipes are quick to prepare, and easy to follow. I have yet to make one that wasn't absolutely delicious. This book takes you on a lovely visit to Thailand with its enormous photographs and some delicious recipes. It is very authentic to Thai cuisine and the only drawback would be if you can't find some of the ingredients, such as kaffir lime leaves, etc. and also on the spicy side, as Thai dishes usually are but if you are faint of heat, reduce some of the chilies and pepper amounts and add slowly! Gorgeous book!

This really is a beautiful cookbook. Thai food is not something most people think they cook, but you definitely can. This cookbook has photos that display the food wonderfully on almost every page. I like pictures that show you what the food is supposed to look like.
